I'm making a modification for FreeSpace 2 using an overhauled version of the Tyrian storyline, the storyline is too long to put into this post, I'll upload it somewhere.

"1) Include the original Tyrian 2000 game in its entirety."
That would be illegal for me to do.

"2) Remake the entire game with 3-D graphics and original 2-D gameplay. Also, the point-of-view may change, but the gameplay will always be 2-D. For example, there may be parts where the viewpoint will be angled, rather than straight above, and you may also end up viewing things from a side-angle rather than straight-ahead."
The whole thing's 3D now with first-person perspective .The engine limitations prevent atmospheric combat, but I can make missions with planets in the background or even a 3D model of a planet (like the Earth mission that will be included in the sample campaign)

"3) A lot more weapons and sidekicks. Preferably, weapons and sidekicks that are actually *useful*. Right now, the Hyper Pulse and Zica Laser are the only Front weapons worth having, and all the rear weapons don't matter much. Either that, or it's just that everything takes forever to kill on Impossible. Also, I want to see more of those Satellite-type things."
You get primary weapons (guns--pulse cannons, Protrons, Laser, et al) and secondary weapons (missiles, including homing missiles). Both are useful.

"4) More food stuff. And more Zinglon sub-games."
There will be only one food/Zinglon thing that will be thrown in as an Easter egg that will be difficult to find,

"5) More differences between the shields besides their amount of shield. They could differ in recharge rate, suicide damage, and power usage."
Done. Ships now have built-in shield systems that cannot be modified. Generally, smaller ships have weaker shields. Shield recharge rate is determined by a ship's power output, which also determines how fast your primary cannon drains your energy banks.

"6) More difference between the ships, besides their twiddles and amount of armor. They should probably go at different speeds and have different inertias."
Done. Ships now have set shields, armor, speed, maneuverability, and power output. For example, the Talon is fast and can turn on a dime, but it is fragile and drains its energy banks easily. The Stalker is slow and unmaneuverable, but it has six primary gun mounts compared to the Talon's four, more hull strength, a stronger shield, more missile capacity, and a higher power output. And the Eagle bomber is like a flying fortress, as it handles like a brick, moves slowly, but has immense shields and armor, and the ability to carry devastating torpedoes that can destroy capital ships more effectively than a fighter can.

"7) A serious re-design of a lot of the boss ships. They look really bland. I'm sorry, but the last boss of Deliani is just not good-looking at all."
There's no bosses, but there's capital ships. Big ones, some over a hundred times the length of their ships. They have vast arrays of turret-mounted point-defense guns, and awesome particle beam cannons (think constant lasers, except they're big enough to engulf your ship and they can destroy you in the blink of an eye) that are used against capital ships)

"More "ultimate" ships, besides the Stalker 21.126. Right now, there is no reason to use anything else besides the Stalker 21.126."
There is no ultimate ship, except the Zica fighter, which isn't player flyable.

"9) Maybe a possible "character select" menu? This would only be available after Episode 5 and would allow you to choose between Trent Hawkins, Ninja, and Buce. Your "character" might affect a lot of twiddles and what your "ultimate" ship is. Trent's ultimate would be the Stalker 21.126, Ninja's ultimate would be the Gencore Stealthship, and Buce... I dunno. The Nortship Z?"
You are a rookie fighter pilot referred to by your squadron designation "Alpha One". Trent Hawkins in my storyline is a legendary fighter ace who later became a fleet admiral, so now he bosses you arround.

"10) A new episode 6, where you fight Transok Lohk. I dunno if Reid is part of Transon's plot to take over the universe, or if Reid is a helpless pawn. Maybe Reid could be another selectable character? The last level would be Tyrian again, except that Transon would be using the memorial statue of Trent Hawkins as his boss ship. If you chose Trent after episode 5, you'd have to destroy a statue in your honor as the last boss of the episode!"
GOD NO. Transon Lohk is your ally.

"11) A new episode 7, exploring the links between the Zica, the dragons, and Earth. You get to meet more of the Hazudra, uncover what the cult of Zinglon was doing, and some other stuff."
The Zica are a malevolent race who jealously guard their supremacy in the universe and are paranoid that some other race may usurp their position. They invaded the Milky Way in 2389 and were barely driven back, but now they have marshalled their forces for a return.

"12) A new episode 8, where you go to the Solar System and make your way through each of the planets, skipping Earth to go to Mercury and Venus, and finally ending up at Earth."
You participate in the Battle of Earth at the end of the campaign, where you assist the Earth Federation in their seemingly hopeless war against the Microsol Consortium.

"Now that I think about it, suggestion 2 is the only "unrealistic" one. All the other suggestions in this list are very possible by today's standards. Of course, suggestion 2 might be necessary to "make it" as a game today, but not at all necessary if it's just for fans like us.

Here are some more differences:
Those big corporations aren't just corporations. The Microsol Consortium is a combination corporation/space empire, ruled by Vykromod. They have been waging a long and bloody war against the Savaran Imperial Alliance (the faction you fight for), to which Gencore is a major military supplier. Other factions include the Parliamentary Vasudan Empire (as seen in the FreeSpace games, only this is what has become of them in the 41st century), the Earth Federation, the Zica, and the Republic of Erigone.

USP now stands for Union Systems Personnel and produces a variety of military and civilian craft, including the Talon light space superiority fighter, the Fang medium fighter, and the Perren heavy assault fighter.

The Stalker variants encountered are the Stalker-A and the Stalker-B.

Thick nebulas that hinder visibility and produce lightning storms.
